Case Study: Helping a Goole Homeowner Cut Costs and Carbon All in One
With household energy costs continuing to put pressure on homeowners, more people are looking for ways to reduce their reliance on the grid and make better use of the energy available to them. For this Goole client in particular, the answer was solar panels combined with battery storage.
We installed a 3.84kW solar PV system consisting of 8 panels, incorporating a Fox ESS All-In-One Evo 10 inverter and 10kWh battery storage system, giving the homeowner a new way to generate, store and use their own electricity while reducing their annual energy costs and carbon footprint.

Key figures:
- Sector: Domestic
- System size: 3.84kW
- Annual generation: 3108kWh
- Annual savings: £678 (approx.)
- Estimated CO2 reductions: 644kg / year
The Challenge
Like many homeowners, our client was looking for a way to reduce their household energy bills and become less reliant on electricity from the grid.
Simply installing solar panels, however, doesn’t always mean that every unit of electricity generated is used within the home.
Solar PV systems typically generate the most electricity during daylight hours, often when household electricity demand is lower.
This can mean that without battery storage, surplus electricity is exported to the grid rather than being available for the homeowner to use later in the day.
The aim was to maximise the amount of renewable electricity the household could generate and use itself, while also providing greater flexibility over when that energy was consumed.
The Solution
The system is expected to generate approximately: 3,108kWh of electricity every year
This electricity can be used to power the home, reducing the amount of electricity that needs to be purchased from the grid.
When the solar panels produce more electricity than the household needs, the surplus can be directed into the battery. The stored energy can then be used later when the panels aren’t generating, like during the evenings.
Any remaining surplus can also be exported back to the grid, providing another potential financial benefit.
Why battery storage made sense
The 10kWh battery gives the homeowner significantly greater flexibility over how their solar energy is used.
Instead of generating electricity during the day and potentially exporting unused energy, the system can store surplus generation for later use.
This can help increase the proportion of renewable electricity that is consumed within the property and reduce reliance on grid electricity when solar generation is lower.
The result is a system designed not simply to generate more energy, but to make better use of the energy already being generated.
The Results
The new solar and battery system is expected to deliver significant financial and environmental benefits for the household:
- £678 Estimated annual energy bill saving
- 3,108kWh Estimated annual solar generation
- 644kg Estimated CO₂ reduction per year
- 10kWh Battery storage capacity
- 3.84kW Solar PV system size
Reducing Energy Bills
The installation is expected to reduce this Goole client’s energy bills by approximately £678 per year.
Over the lifetime of the system, these savings could add up significantly.
With an upfront investment of just under £9,000, the system has been designed as a long-term investment rather than simply an immediate energy-saving measure.
Based on the projected savings, the client is expected to recover their initial investment during the system’s lifespan and even generate a return beyond the original investment.
Actual savings and payback will vary depending on factors such as electricity prices, household consumption, solar generation and how effectively the battery is utilised.
From Installation to Energy Independence
What began as a desire to reduce household energy costs has resulted in a long-term renewable energy solution designed to provide benefits for years to come.
Energe transformed the property’s energy setup with a solar PV and battery storage system that is expected to:
- Generate 3,108kWh of renewable electricity every year
- Save approximately £678 on annual energy bills
- Reduce CO₂ emissions by around 644kg every year
- Store surplus solar energy in a 10kWh battery
- Reduce reliance on electricity from the grid
- Provide a long-term return on the initial investment
